Everyone needs a little help from time to time and, while countless people have used the articles and guides on our site to reach their goals, there’s no substitute if you want to get there quickly and easily for the help of a good coach.

With that in mind we offer a handful of coaching options for people who want that extra little bit of help to reach their goals quickly or those who have been struggling for a long time and need some expert guidance.

Who Coaching Is For

While I honestly think everyone can benefit from the help of a good coach, there are certain people in particular I’ve found who are particularly good candidates for coaching. Usually they can relate to one or more of these problems.

  • I have absolutely no idea where to start. – While our start here page and beginner’s guides are always a good place to start, I recognize that getting started can be a big step and is intimidating and overwhelming for a lot of people. One on one coaching gets you off on the right foot right off the bat.

  • I’ve been trying for a while, but now I’m completely stuck. – You may have gotten off to a good start – and even been making good progress for a while – but now you’ve stalled out. It can be frustrating to figure out what might need to be changed or corrected on your own. The best thing is to have an experienced and objective coach evaluate what you’re doing and correct course from there.

  • I don’t have the time (or patience) to figure a plan out on my own. – Coaching isn’t an instant fix, there will still have to be work on your part to get to your goals, but it makes it a lot easier. If you want to get from New York to L.A. being given a ticket for a direct flight is going to be a lot less hassle than being given a road map (does anyone still use paper road maps?). In the same way, if you just want someone to take care of the back end and planning for you so that you can focus on what you need to do, coaching is the way to go.

  • I think I know what I need to do, but I’m totally overwhelmed. – This can tie in a little with being stuck, sometimes you know what you need to do or have a decent idea at least, but it all seems so overwhelming you don’t know how to put it together into a big picture plan. Usually people who feel this way wind up spinning their wheels and never really get started. Having someone to give them a concrete step-by-step plan takes the overwhelming parts out of the equation.

If you can relate to any of these, chances are coaching will be a good fit for you. That being said, there are some people who coaching is not for.

Who Coaching Is Not For

While the above problems and attitudes tend to show people will be benefited most by coaching, there are definitely some attitudes we’ve run into that mark people as being bad candidates for coaching.

  • I want someone else to do all the work. – This is a totally different attitude from those above of being overwhelmed or needing help figuring out a plan. These are the people who want no work at all, a magic pill. That’s not how coaching works. I’m not going to make infomercial-esque promises of how you can have everything you dreamed of for three easy payments of $19.99 – it’s going to be hard work. Coaching will make things exponentially easier, but you’ll still have to put your end in. If you’re not willing to do that you’re wasting your time.

  • I don’t want to reach my goal, but I have to. – If you have bad reasons for wanting to reach your particular goal you’ll probably make a bad coaching client. People who get coaching because they’re being forced to do something or lack a strong personal motivation tend to not be motivated to put the work in. You get back what you put in, so if you’re not personally invested in your success it’s generally not worth it.

  • I’m not willing to make big changes. – You may be willing to work hard, but are you willing to give up some of that TV time? Do you start getting nervous when talk of new routines or habits comes up? If you’re not hitting your goal it’s almost a certainty that you’re not going to hit it if nothing changes. If you’re not ready to make at least some changes then you’re probably not ready for coaching either.

Some of these, if they’re mild, we can work through. Usually though they mean that you might need to look to other options before going for coaching.

How Coaching Works

Right now we offer coaching in two main areas: Fitness and Language Learning. Occasionally we will accept one-off coaching clients for topic outside of those two, so if you think there’s something not in those two categories we might be able to help you with e-mail us at [email protected] and we can discuss it. You can also specifically request either Adam or Caroline as a coach if you have a specific preference, but both of us do work in both areas.

While the particulars will vary depending on what area you’re in and what kind of coaching package you choose (you can get the specifics for each at the bottom of the page) there are a handful of things that are the same no matter what.

Your initial consultation is completely free. We never take on a one-on-one coaching client without exchanging a handful of e-mails and usually a Skype or phone call or two. While we’re a little less strict about some of the less hands on coaching packages you should still expect a lot of communication before we agree to take you as a client.

All of the consultation process is totally free. You’ll get an honest assessment from us on what we think you can accomplish in a given timeline, a basic outline of the kind of plan we would put you on and a general heads up of what kinds of things we would be expecting from you as your coach. If we don’t think we could help you, or if we think you just need to make a few little changes and full blown coaching is overkill we’ll tell you.

Coaching spaces are limited. We take a lot of pride in delivering the best possible coaching services we can to our clients, both our one-on-one clients and those in the group coaching programs. Our one-on-one clients get our personal cell numbers and have essentially 24/7 access to us for any questions they might have.

As a result we only take on a certain number of clients at a time. If I ever feel like adding an additional client would lead to less attention being given to existing clients then that person will be put on a waiting list and notified as soon as a spot opens up.

100% Money Back Guarantee

There’s a 100% money back guarantee. If at any point you don’t feel like you’re getting what you wanted, you can get a full refund of that month’s coaching fees. No questions asked. Whether it’s that you weren’t satisfied or something came up and you’re suddenly pressed for money as long as you let us know at least the day before your next month’s payment comes out you’ll get a full refund for that month. We’re confident in the results we can get you, and we want you to be confident too.

We reserve the right to fire you as a client. To some this may come across as strange, but tying in to the money back guarantee we reserve the right to fire you as a client. That means that if, at any time, we feel like we’re no longer going to be able to successfully get you to your goal we’ll refund that month’s coaching fees in full and end our coaching agreement. This might be because we no longer feel we can provide what you need or because we don’t feel like you’re putting in equal effort. Regardless of the reason if we can’t fix the problems we’re not going to let you continue spending time and money on coaching if we don’t think you’ll see the results you want.

Our goal is to make you self-sufficient. We’re not interested in repeat business, just referral business. We want to get you to your goal as quickly as possible and make it so you no longer need us to stay there or improve. If you feel like you need to keep paying us for the rest of your life to be where you want to be or continue making progress then we’ve failed as a coach. Timelines will vary based on goals and situations but we expect to get every single client to a state of self-sufficiency.
